A board that hadn't met for 13 years was revived for a rail project.

The Hughes County Regional Rail Authority, a pass-through entity for railroad project funding, had not met since September 17, 1996. But it met early this month to approve a funding request for the Harrold Grain Corp.

Charles Jepson of Harrold, an authority member and majority owner of Harrold Grain Corp., said the company requested $2.6 million from the authority for the project, which will cost $7 million.

Jepson says a circular track is to be built to make rail car loading and unloading easier. He says the project will help expand the corporation's businesses in the Harrold area.

The work is scheduled to start this fall and should be done sometime next year.
