Firefighters northwest of Los Angeles are trying to protect homes from a wildfire that's being pushed along by hot, dry Santa Ana winds.

The fire has spread across 15 square miles, and crews say it has the potential for significant growth. It's about 20 percent contained.

Kaye Gustafson Overby grew up in the Irene area. She and her husband and kids now live in Ventura County. She tells us the fire is about a half mile from her home and she didn't sleep much last night watching the flames creep closer to her house.

"My kids and I had packed up everything that we wanted and were ready to evacuate yesterday. I don't even like watching it when it's this close to our house," Gustafson Overby said.

About 1,000 homes are considered threatened as the fire burns
just north of Moorpark, a city of 37,000. Nearly 900 firefighters are working the blaze. I
