A man parents are supposed to trust with their children faces assault charges. Thirty-seven-year old Brian Sieh is the superintendent of the Henry School District and was arrested Tuesday for domestic assault after the victim filed a report.
The sheriff won't say who the victim is or how she and Brian Sieh knew each other.
With less than 300 people in the town of Henry, it doesn't take long for word to spread, especially when the school superintendent is arrested.
"It really is bothering a lot of parents, I know that," Val Svatos said.
Svatos has three kids in the Henry School ranging from pre-school to fourth grade. She wants workers in the school to be a good example, which is why she's especially upset to hear about this arrest.
"My first reaction was, ‘What happened and why did it happen in our town?’" Svatos said.
Codington County Sheriff Toby Wishard isn't answering in detail the question of what happened because the investigation is ongoing. But he said the victim did report Sieh had physically harmed her.
"Of course, we've got to be fair and impartial. So his position in the community doesn't affect the investigation of this any differently than it would for anybody else," Wishard said.
But back in Henry, it is his position that gets Svatos upset.
"I'm hoping the school will inform all the parents of how they're going to handle this," Svatos said.
We've contacted the school but it wasn’t commenting on Wednesday. Sieh has been at the Henry School two years and was just starting his third.
"We think our children should go to school and be protected and be safe and have an example and good people working for the state and for the schools and this has happened and it really bothers me," Svatos said.
The sheriff doesn't have a set timeline for the investigation but hopes to have it wrapped up by the end of the week.
