A new Sioux Falls group that's talking trash needs some help.

When you head to summer events, recycling probably isn't the first thing on your mind, unless you're a member of the trash talkers.

"Talk to people about recycling, help people recycle at the event, help them understand what can go in which bin," Sioux Falls Green Project Director Joe Bartmann said.

The new group is getting involved in events, like last month's Automania, where more than half of the potential garbage ended up in recycling bins.

"Plastic and aluminum isn't very heavy so we actually recycled a big chunk from that event and saved it from going to the landfill," Bartmann said.

And this week, they hope to have an even bigger impact.  Hot Summer Nights and Jazzfest are just days away. They're huge events, so the trash talkers are looking for help.

There are about 10 volunteers signed up now but the group needs a dozen more by Friday.

"If they're willing to volunteer a few hours to help keep the city clean and green, then we'd love to hear from them," Bartmann said.

Sharing just a few hours of your time can have a lasting impact.

The trash talkers need volunteers for Hot Summer Nights on July 15 and Jazzfest on July 17-18.

Visit the Sioux Falls Green Project Web Site if you'd like to volunteer.
