Most winter wheat farmers have gotten moisture this year, but in some cases the rain has been accompanied by hail.
New Underwood farmer Travis Madsen says winter wheat has been "hit and miss."
This year, he says he had a nice crop - but that half of it got hailed out a month before the harvest. Now, Madsen says he's worried about crop disease and whether it could be passed on if he plants wheat again in the same ground.
South Dakota's 2009 winter wheat harvest is expected to be 27 percent smaller than last year.
