When storms with large hail and heavy rain developed just west of Mitchell, we were close behind and we followed the system to Corsica and Parkston.
A little farther southeast, we drove through Olivet on our way to Menno. We were just a quarter mile west of town when we got caught in the middle of a tornado warning. The rain was so heavy you could barely see; it was accompanied by strong wind and one-inch hail. We used an atlas and camera case to protect ourselves in case any debris would break the windows.
As the western part of the storm weakened, we turned around slowly and waited for it to pass.

We stopped on Highway 18, just a quarter mile west of Menno, as the tornado was going through town. It's a good thing we did because if we would have made it to town, we may have been hit with tree branches or debris from the tornado.
Once the storm passed, we pulled into town and cleanup was already underway.
