Two of South Dakota's largest cities re-elected their mayors in local elections on Tuesday and the state's second-biggest city expanded to the east.
In Rapid City, voters approved a plan to annex 263 acres of Rapid Valley and extend city services to the area known as South Valley.
Rapid City voters also re-elected Mayor Alan Hanks to another two-year term. He defeated challenger Bonnie Redden.
And in Aberdeen, residents opted to keep incumbent Mike Levsen in office another five years, though he'll be a part-time mayor because the city has hired a full-time manager. He defeated David Bunsness, Tom Burgard and Clint Rux.
