The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down this week near Dupree in western South Dakota.
Meteorologists confirmed the twister after surveying damage of the area.
They say the tornado touched down about five miles west of Dupree and traveled eight miles, with damage ending about three miles northeast of town.
Damage included several barns and grain bins, semi trailers, small mobile homes and a communications tower.
Winds were estimated between 100 and 110 mph.
