Dozens of World War Two Veterans from South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota are back home after taking a trip of a lifetime.
They flew to Washington, D.C. over the weekend as part of Honor Flight. When they landed, they received a heroes welcome from family, strangers and military personnel. Once they got to the national World War Two memorial, built in their honor, they were overcome with emotions.
"It just brings tears to your eyes. All the men who lost their lives. So many people in the street come up to you and say thank you," Maynard Christensen of Viborg said.
"I broke down. When I saw this memorial I thought of all my friends, so it was very emotional," Claude Hone of Sioux Falls said.
"I thought this was the greatest thing I ever seen in my life, it was just unbelievable," William Degler of Sioux Falls said.
The veterans also toured several other monuments and memorials. All this week we'll be paying a special tribute to the veterans and their battles.
