Whether its to check your Post Office Box, grab a book of stamps or send a package, many use the post office on a weekly basis. The Downtown Sioux Falls Post Office gets a lot of foot traffic everyday.
Today, Shirlee Hanson is picking up mail for a friend.
"Had this post office box for a number of years down here because its location has been here for many years," Hanson said.
But that could soon change.
"We are trying to see where we can be more efficient and save costs," Karen Fredrickson with the post office said.
Fredrickson says that could mean selling the Downtown building.
"Do we sell the whole thing and move somewhere else in the downtown area for our retail? It's very preliminary or do we keep it and starting using the whole facility?" Fredrickson said.
The Postal Service is still trying to figure that out. Since it isn't using the whole building, it could sell it or lease out the space upstairs.
"If you have underutilized space, which we do, to make best of it and maybe someone out there could utilize this facility better," Fredrickson said.
Giving your opinion could help the Post Office decide what to do, which is why they posted signs on the front door.
"It's all taken into consideration, it all is" Fredrickson said.
"I think having a location downtown for residents and businesses and not eliminating it all together," Hanson said.
The downtown location was just renovated in 2007 to remove asbestos.
