Nine people are behind bars after the Sioux Falls Drug Task Force busted up a drug ring over the past several days. Immigration and Customs Enforcement say two of them were members of the Latin Kings street gang.
Another has been deported before and is being held for another round of deportation hearings.
Officials say the drugs they collected have a street value of more than $165,000. That includes three pounds of cocaine, almost seven ounces of meth, about six ounces of marijuana, and 35 ecstasy pills.
And Attorney General Larry Long says it's more than someone would have for personal use, they're amounts that would be sold on the street.
Attorney General Larry Long says a house at 807 South 1st Avenue, in central Sioux Falls, was the key that unlocked a major drug ring in the city.
Attorney General Larry Long says, "The first search warrant generated five arrests and enough information to get two more search warrants."
And investigators not only found drugs and suspected dealers, but also a six month old boy who they took into protective custody. Twenty-one-year-old Sarah Bach is now charged with neglecting and abusing him.
But the drugs and suspects police found at that central Sioux Falls home also led investigators to the West Side of the city. More warrants led to more drugs, more than three pounds of cocaine, and four more arrests at a home near Hayward Elementary.
Long says, "Three pounds is a considerable amount of cocaine and that's obviously not for personal use, that's for distribution."
And getting all of these drugs off the street and out of circulation is what the attorney general says made this drug bust significant.
Long says, "The more drugs we can take off the street in one series of arrests the happier we are."
Attorney General Larry Long says this drug ring and the amount of drugs investigators found is big enough that the U.S. Attorney, and federal authorities may take over the investigation.
