It's called "the house that love built," and Sioux Falls is about to be home to not just one, but two of them.

Little more than a month after the Sioux Falls Home Builders association announced it would be building a new 18 room Ronald McDonald house on the Sanford campus, Avera McKennan today unveiled plans for an 8 room Ronald McDonald House of their own.

The 9,000 square foot building will built as part of the Walsh Family Village on the Avera McKennan campus.
In addition to the eight family rooms, the new Ronald McDonald House on the Avera McKennan campus will include a children's play area, a family room, living room, dining room and two full kitchens. The interior of the building will be left unfinished so that the community can get involved in the project by donating money, labor or goods to complete the house. Avera McKennan CEO Fred Slunecka says the new facility should be open by late summer.

Slunecka says, "More than a place to stay for families of seriously ill children, the Ronald McDonald House is a place of emotional support for moms, dads, brothers and sisters, whoever needs it most.”

The new house will be operated by Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota and will be open to families referred by Avera Children's Hospital. The Walsh Family Village will also be home to the Nano Nagle Inn, a hotel project, as well as Casa de Carlitos which provides a place to stay for families who travel from out of the country to receive children's medical care at Avera McKennan.
