Pheasant hunters are out in the fields at K and M Hunting in Plankinton. In May, the Millers who own the business had their house, lodge and everything else they owned destroyed by a tornado.

Mike and Kathye Miller's house and lodge were destroyed by a May 5th tornado that tore a path through the buildings and killed thousands of pheasants. But they said from day one they would be up and running by the start of pheasant season.

"We've reconstructed the dog kennells, the lodge, the house and the barns. Pretty much everything except the yard. It still looks like a tornado went through it," Kathye said.

Mike and Kathye say they are amazed it only took them four months to rebuild.  They welcomed hunters back early last month. But they say they couldn't have done it alone.

"We've had a great outpouring of help, financial and volunteer help. It's just been such a blessing," Mike said.

That help came from people and organizations around the state as well as the hunters who come to K and M from all over the country. They say they're happy the Millers are back on their feet.

"Although, I liked the original house, what they've rebuilt out here is truly amazing.  The facilities are first class," Greg Wilber of Nashville, Tennessee said.

The new lodge sleeps 24 people and the dining room in the main house comfortably seats that many as well.
And just in case another twister comes to visit, they built in a safety room which doubles as a pantry. But it's a something they hope they never have to use.

"If this ever happens again, believe I will not be rebuilding. I'll be taking an extended vacation," Kathye joked.

And for now she and Mike will simply be making their guest's vacations as fulfilling as possible.

The Millers say the quick progress on the house was amazing. Volunteers worked so diligently, they were able to put in all of the tile for the main house and their lodge in just two days.
