The South Dakota Brand Board has decided on a legislative agenda that includes a proposal for an administrative fine if brand inspections aren't done before cattle in the West River area are moved or sold.
Executive Director Larry Stearns said the fine would go into effect after a hearing and would have a cap of $5,000.
The Legislature turned down a similar proposal two years ago.
The Brand Board provides livestock owners with a system of identification through brand registration west of the Missouri River.
