An eastern KELOLAND community has lost one of its churches to a fire.

The Sanborn County Sheriff says a fire started at the First Lutheran Church in Artesian just after 4 a.m. Monday and rapidly spread.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.  No one was hurt.

The sheriff says the church meant a lot to the community since it was one of the few remaining active churches in town.
