As some families struggle to fill their cupboards with food, Stephanie Heiden with the Furniture Mission of South Dakota also sees many who need kitchen supplies.
"There are big amounts of families that are coming in and they just have nothing," Heiden said.
That's something the Kitchen Store on 10th also knows, so the two groups are whipping together a kitchen supply donation drive to help stock the cabinets for those who need it most.
"This community is a very generous community, and we would like to be the place where people can bring those things so we can give them to the furniture mission," Peterson said.
Kitchen store owner Caroline Peterson says receiving the kitchenware can really cut down the cost of living.
"This will be able to free up money for some of those families so they can buy the food that they can use to put in the pots, pans, and cut with those knives," Peterson said.
So far, the store has had only a few donations, but they're optimistic that'll soon change.
So does the furniture mission.
We hope that its successful. And whatever we get, we'll be very thankful for," Heiden said.
And families will be, too.
You can drop off gently used kitchen supplies at the Kitchen Store on 10th through the end of the month.
