But a pre-concert preview provided inspiration for Native American students from Central South Dakota. When teachers from Saint Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain heard 'Indigenous' was playing a record release show in Sioux Falls, they called to see if they could get discounted tickets for a group of students. But those kids got much more than just a cheap seat to the show.
Many musicians inspired the sound of 'Indigenous.' From the blues of B.B. King to the rock of Jimi Hendrix. Friday night, 'Indigenous' lead-man Mato Nanji of Wagner, South Dakota inspired Native American kids.
Mato Nanji says, "Myself, growing up in music and I know there's a lot of kids out there that are interested in playing music in schools and stuff and I'm a big supporter of young kids getting into music cause that's all I know."

Nanji is a Native American role model, which is why staff from Saint Joseph's Indian School wanted students to see the band perform. But instead of just giving students tickets to the show, Nanji invited them to a pre-show sound-check party.
Saint Joseph's Indian School Sophomore Shaylene High Elk says, "We got to be here while no one else is here and we got like special treatment or something and it's just a wonderful opportunity to be able to do."
After the sound-check, 'Indigenous' gave the school two guitars, so the students can make music themselves.
Saint Joseph's Indian School Senior Rozlyn Quilt says, "I think that's cool I mean I don't know how to play but I can learn."
Nanji says, "It just felt right to me to kinda pass on a little bit of what I know, you know to a lot of the younger kids that are growing up and may be that are really interested in playing or interested in music."

By giving these students guitars and a personal show, Nanji lived up to his role model status.
Saint Joseph's Indian School Junior Cody Nadeau says, "Use him as a role model something to look up to say he did it so maybe I can do something like that."
Quilt says, "I think its cool just the fact that someone could come from being Native American and coming up to be big and being able to play in a band."
The 'Indigenous' concert kicks off a 23 show tour for the Blues band. 'Indigenous' will play in Chicago Saturday night.
