Minnehaha County commissioners are pressing Governor Mike Rounds to do something about the state's new license plate registration system that has created what they called a state of emergency.
The auditor says the long lines have prompted two county workers to quit over the frustration.
The computer system that went online July 1 changed the way tags are registered so the plates stay with the person instead of the vehicle.
In a letter to Rounds, commissioners described a "chaotic situation" at the administration building and directed blame at the state.
A spokesman says the governor was briefed on the situation and urged the Department of Revenue and Regulation and the Department of Motor Vehicles to try to fix the problem.
We'll have more on this story later today on KELOLAND.com and News.
