The home foreclosure rate in South Dakota trails the national average.

The foreclosure rate was 1.21% through the first three months of the year, up slightly from the previous quarter.
The Mortgage Bankers Association says the national foreclosure rate was
2.47%.

During the same period, 2.89% of home loans in South Dakota were past due. Nationally, the delinquency rate was 6.35%.

The South Dakota Housing Development Authority says foreclosure rates for first-time homebuyers through its program are only 0.54%.
