Governor Rounds is set to open a science workshop this morning that has drawn more than 300 of the world's top scientists to Lead.

They'll be discussing experiments that could be done in a former gold mine nearly 8,000 feet below the northern Black Hills.

Lab Director Jose Alonso says the workshop will focus on experiments that can be done in the National Science Foundation deep laboratory planned for Homestake.

Scientists will also get together to talk about research projects for the interim Sanford Laboratory at Homestake at the 4,850-foot level.

The DUSEL Initial Suite of Experiments Workshop runs through Saturday.
