State officials continue their investigation of a mountain lion attack reported March 1st by 33-year-old Ryan Hughes of Rapid City.
The Game, Fish and Parks Department has stopped short of listing the report as a confirmed attack.
Hughes is puzzled and annoyed that some people doubt his word about the attack, which he says took place at Sheridan Lake while he was ice fishing.
Hughes says the lion jumped him shortly after he stepped off the ice to relieve himself.
He suffered puncture wounds and lacerations on his arm and face. Hughes was treated at Rapid City Regional Hospital, and began rabies shots.
A Game, Fish and Parks official says he's not sure when the department will make a final determination on the attack.
