South Dakota Auditor General Marty Guindon says he needs to hire two more auditors to keep up to date in reviewing spending in stimulus projects and other state programs.
The Legislature's Executive Board, which handles administrative duties for the South Dakota Legislature, told Guindon on Monday he can ask for the additional auditors when next year's state budget is put together. But board members said the final decision will be up to the Legislature's Appropriations Committee, which writes the budget.
Republican state Rep. Larry Tidemann of Brookings said he will not support adding the auditors because the Legislature decided not to expand state government to manage stimulus programs.
