Stock prices are little changed at midday. The market has regrouped after a strong rally Monday.
- Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd is calling for sweeping new government powers to prevent another economic collapse while protecting consumers. He's backing a measure that would strip the Federal Reserve and other regulators of their powers to regulate banks and hand that job to a single agency.
- FedEx expects additional holiday business this year. The Memphis-based company looks to ship 13 million packages on Dec. 14, which it expects to be its busiest day this year and up 8 percent from the busiest day last year.
- JPMorgan Chase says it will hire 1,200 mortgage loan officers by the end of next year. That would mark a
60 percent increase in its sales force. - Target has agreed to pay New Jersey $375,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging that it sold expired baby formula and charged different prices at the register than advertised. The state's attorney general says Target will establish a position for a senior manager who will ensure advertised prices match what customers are being charged.
