When Delta and Northwest Airlines merged a year ago, it became the world's largest airline. But since then the company has made cuts. And flights are being cut at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

Depending on their destination, these passengers will soon have fewer options when it comes to booking a flight.
"It's going to be a lot of inconvenience for all of us who are traveling," traveler Lynn Waters said.

Starting in January, the Delta/Northwest 5 AM flight to Minneapolis will be eliminated along with the last flight of the day from Minneapolis to Sioux Falls. And it doesn't end there. Starting December 2nd, the carrier is also cutting a non-stop flight to Atlanta.

"Anytime we lose flights, especially in destinations in the Caribbean, it's a lot harder to get there and a lot harder to get home again late night because of the connection," AAA's Marlin Johansen said.

Johansen says the cutbacks aren't just happening in KELOLAND.

"It's throughout the Midwest. I think there are some cities in Iowa, even in North Dakota that have lost some of their connections," Johansen said.

Even though we're seeing some cuts, there is some good news in sight. American Airlines will be joining the airport next year.

Those flights will arrive in April and for some passengers they couldn't come soon enough.

"Anytime we can gain more carriers, more destinations, just more opportunities to get to different places that you couldn't get to before, hopefully it will help some fares, you never know," Johansen said.

"We need it. Sioux Falls is growing and we should be able to handle it," Waters said.

In addition to American Airlines coming to Sioux Falls, a flight will be added to Detroit on December 7.
