The cost to fill up a tank of gas is climbing fast. The nationwide average for a gallon of gas has jumped 17 cents in the last two weeks alone.
In South Dakota, filling up on 10 gallons of gas costs you about $1.50 more than it did just last month.
"I'm fairly concerned that it's going to cost me a couple dollars more every week. And it's really gonna add up," driver Michaela May said.
Gas prices are on the rise nationwide and in KELOLAND. And they might not let up anytime soon.
The average price for regular unleaded gas costs about $2.64 a gallon. That's 11 cents more than just a week ago. And Mark Madeja with AAA says a gallon of gas could jump between five and ten cents in the next month. He says a weakening dollar and a stronger oil market has caused the gas price increase.
"Will they hit $3 dollars? I don't think so. Hopefully we'll see the same trends we've seen all summer long, $2.40, $2.50, but this may hold for the next few weeks," Madeja said.
And that could force some drivers to adjust their driving habits.
"Probably start walking more. So yes, I'm very worried," May said.
Still, gas prices in KELOLAND are at nearly the same price as a year ago, and other drivers say they haven't noticed the increase while at the pump . But many are hoping they don't see any more of them.
