Senator Tim Johnson says the Bureau of Reclamation will provide $56.5 million for the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System, which is under construction in southeast South Dakota. 

It's part of $80 million in economic stimulus money for South Dakota water projects.  Johnson says the total includes $20 million for the Mni Wiconi project and $4 million for the Perkins County Rural Water System.

The Democratic senator says the Lewis and Clark funding level is the highest ever. He says money will be used to build Phase II of the water treatment plant near Vermillion.  The $537 million water system is designed to supply high quality drinking water to more than 300,000 residents in three states.
