If you haven't registered to vote in this year’s election, you only have one day left to do so. 
The Deadline to register in South Dakota is 5pm Monday October 20th.

Secretary of State Chris Nelson says he's very pleased with voter registration turnout so far. 

"We're just seeing a general surge, and I'm not trying to do the demographic if it's younger folks or older folks, but I know we've seen a real surge in total registration numbers, and I gotta believe it’s probably a little bit of everybody,” Nelson said. 

But, he knows there are plenty of potential voters that still need to get in and register before time runs out. 

"The deadline is 5 o’clock Monday October 20th, in order to get registered to vote in this general election, once that deadline passes, it's gonna be too late to vote,” Nelson said. 

Nelson says people can get a list of places where you can register at the Secretary of State's website.  He also says you can register online.  You just have to make sure the registration form is turned in by 5pm Monday. 

"It's a simple form, that asks for your name, your address, drivers license number, and if you don't have one, you give the last 4 digits of your social security number, your birth date, and you read through a simple oath and you sign it, and that's as simple as it is,” Nelson said. 

Nelson says even if you don't know who your voting for just yet, you should still register. 

"Don't foreclose your opportunity to participate, that's the message and so get that registration done, get your name on the list, and you've still got a couple weeks to figure out who you wanna vote for, that's not a problem, but get your name on the list,” Nelson said. 

And you've got less than 24-hours to do so.
