The 2008 Iowa caucuses will be remembered for its record turnout.
A crush of Iowans filled nearly 1,800 school gyms, fire houses and community halls. Democrats reported turnout at 239,000, and nearly 115,000 Republicans took part.
In West Des Moines last night, eight precincts met at the high school, and there wasn't an empty spot in sight.
The same was true at a Democratic precinct in Des Moines near Drake University. It had 444 participates. Four years ago, 279 Iowans showed up.
At a Republican precinct in Ankeny, 220 people showed up Thursday night, more than double what had been expected.
