It's one of the most controversial issues in South Dakota's upcoming election.
Now a national magazine, known for leading feminist movements, has devoted three sections this month to bring awareness to the state's ballot measure to end most abortions, which could impact every woman in the country.
The magazine hit store shelves yesterday. In it is an 11 page article about South Dakota and its abortion ban. The article quotes lots of South Dakotans on the pro-choice side, including Jan Nicolay. And On the pro-life side, it quotes Leslee Unruh.
It also refers to South Dakota as the wire hanger state; in the magazine, you can see a picture of a coat hanger bent and shaped like the state of South Dakota.
There's also an interesting article about the Rosebud Indian Reservation and how abortion affects females on the reservation. The article says 80% of the high school female seniors on reservations in South Dakota report being raped.
But the heart of the article is the list of names of 7,000 women who have signed a petition admitting to having an abortion.
And finally there's a list of other states that plan to pass similar abortion laws if Roe should ever fall.
Ms. Magazine says so far, 7,000 women have signed the petition, which will be delivered to the White House, Congress and State Legislatures.
