Seven American Indian students are recipients of scholarships to attend a postsecondary school in South Dakota.
The scholarships range from $1,000 for a single year to as much as $6,000 over four years. They go to recent high school graduates who are enrolled members of any Indian tribe.
Scholarships this year go to Eric Aberle of Timber Lake, Bo Bearshield of Gregory, Russell Brehmer of Dupree, Haylee Brodersen of DeSmet, Nicholas Mendoza of Eagle Butte, Tyler Oberlander of New Underwood, and Walker Rose of Eagle Butte.
The scholarship program was started by the 2003 Legislature after Minerva Harvey left the proceeds of her estate to the state Education Department.
