An area farmer had a close call this morning when a fire started in his grain dryer.

Around 10 o-clock this morning, emergency crews were called to a farm in rural Minnehaha County.
Fire officials say the owner was drying grain to put into a storage bin... when it caught fire. The fire was put out quickly, but the grain couldn't be salvaged.

"Probably everything that's in the dryer will be disposed of, even the unburned stuff smells, smoky, it's got a burnt smell to it, even though, it's not burnt," Renner Fire Chief Mike Schmitz said.

Officials say no one was hurt and they don't know what caused of the fire.  They remind people to stay safe as harvest continues across KELOLAND.
