A 22-year-old former Pierre man has been indicted in an October 2008 crash in northern Hughes County that killed a man and the unborn child of a woman.

Ross Big Eagle is to be arraigned January 8 on two counts of vehicular homicide and one count each of vehicular battery and driving under the influence. He could face more than 40 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Authorities say the crash killed 28-year-old Rex McClelland of Pierre, a passenger in the vehicle, and the unborn child of another passenger, Crystal Gilmore of the Pierre area.

Big Eagle on Wednesday posted $10,000 bond. The judge is allowing him to return to Colorado, where he now lives, while the case proceeds.
