A call to a grass fire just east of Mitchell led to a grim discovery.

Tuesday night, crews were called to a field on the Davison-Hanson County line. There, they found a car on fire; a woman who reported the fire tells KELOLAND News she saw a body in the trunk.

Authorities, including members of the Hanson and Davison County Sheriff Departments and the Division of Criminal Investigation, were on the scene all day Wednesday. They brought in forklifts to lift the car into a trailer and remove it from the field.

At this point, officials aren't confirming if a body was indeed found in the trunk. More details are expected to be released Thursday.
