The South Dakota State Historical Society has released a children's book titled "The Raccoon and the Bee
Tree," a traditional American Indian story written a century ago.

Wahpeton Dakota Dr. Charles A. Eastman and teacher Elaine Goodale Eastman wrote the story when they worked on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The book combines American Indian and European
storytelling traditions to help children understand that too much curiosity can sometimes lead to trouble.
The story tells of a raccoon that is tempted by honey oozing from a bees' nest.

Rapid City artist Susan Turnbull illustrated the book, the fourth in the Prairie Tale Series. The book costs $14.95 and can be purchased in most book stores or from the South Dakota Historical Society Press.
