Two men who authorities say are in the United States illegally have pleaded guilty to drug charges in Brookings.
Twenty-year-old Elman Ramirez-Donis of Estelline and 28-year-old Edwin Hernandez of Elkton were accused of selling half a pound of methamphetamine to an undercover agent in the parking lot of the Brookings Wal-Mart. Since the sale happened within 500 feet of a video arcade, it is considered a crime in a "drug-free" zone and carries a minimum five-year prison sentence.
The men are to be sentenced October 27. Brookings County State's Attorney Clyde Calhoon says there also is an immigration hold on both men.
