The Codington County sheriff is looking to build a garden tended by jail inmates to help ease a growing
food budget.  Sheriff Toby Wishard says the green beans, peas, potatoes, onions and carrots grown for the county Detention Center could help the bottom line.

It would also give prisoners something to do instead of staring at four walls or watching television.  Wishard says he would use inmates who are not on work release and are given trustee status to work in the garden.
Staff from his department would oversee the operation.
