A Pierre-based South Dakota Army National Guard unit will not be mobilized for possible duty overseas after all.
The 180-member 200th Engineer Company had been notified in April to prepare for a possible future mobilization. But this week, the company was told it has been relieved from preparing for such a mobilization.
Besides the Pierre headquarters, the 200th has units in Chamberlain and Mobridge.
It was sent to Iraq in January 2003 to provide bridge support and security and returned home in the spring of 2004. The National Guard says the unit has not received any other notifications for possible overseas deployment.
