Alabama authorities are in South Dakota questioning a person of interest in a double homicide. Twenty-four-year-old Adrian Glass was taken into custody just before noon Wednesday on Interstate 90 near Kennebec. Authorities have been looking for Glass since his parents were found shot to death in their Alabama home last Friday.

The Saint Clair County Sheriff's Office in Alabama says its been tracking his credit card purchases and alerted South Dakota officials Wednesday morning that Glass had made stops in Piedmont, Kadoka, and Kennebec as he drove east across the state.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol spotted Glass's vehicle just before noon on Interstate 90 near Kennebec and were able to safely take him into custody. But if it wasn't for the information they get from a national database, Glass may have been able to slip through the state.

"We cover all the highways in the state," South Dakota Highway Patrol Lieutenant Alan Welsh said. "It gives us a position and an opportunity that we're going to run into some people that are criminals and travel through."

South Dakota troopers receive alerts about fugitives and people of interest that may be in the state on a regular basis through a place called the National Fusion Center Network. It's a Department of Homeland Security agency that funnels information to law enforcement agencies in every state.

"The information sharing is something that improved after 9/11. I think this is a case where the information sharing paid off," Lt. Welsh said.

Information from hundreds of miles away alerted highway patrol troopers about Adrian Glass's credit card purchases in the state and that lead to his arrest.

"I think the troopers are trained to always use the best officer safety that they can, and part of officer safety isn't just tactics, it's information, and being knowledgeable and always trying to be aware of what you're dealing with," Lt. Welsh said.

And its that kind of information from half way across the country that can take an armed and dangerous person off the roads.

"It's also a relief that you get a person that is potentially dangerous before anybody else gets hurt," Lt. Welsh said.

The Saint Clair County Sheriff's Office in Alabama says Wednesday's arrest is an example of what can be accomplished when law enforcement agencies work together.
