A 44-year-old man from Kyle pleaded not guilty to bootlegging on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. 

Craig Janis is charged with dispensing intoxicants in Indian country.  According to the indictment, he provided beer or vodka to four people between November and March in Kyle. 

Because of the high alcoholism rate, federal authorities have increased enforcement of the law after getting requests from elders and tribal leaders at Pine Ridge, the only South Dakota reservation where alcohol is banned.  That means it's the only reservation where the federal law is enforced.
