South Dakota environmental officials say a Waubay man has agreed to a $5,000 fine for stormwater runoff violations on his property along Enemy Swim Lake.
The settlement is with Merlyn Drake, who bought property at Enemy Swim in 1991. Officials say the fine resulted from grading work Drake started last October on 35 acres he owns on the lake's northeastern edge.
Drake has said the work he's doing will stabilize a steep bank and ease natural erosion into the lake. He also said he'd pay any fine levied by the state after officials inspected the site in April.
Enemy Swim Lake in Day County near the state's northeastern corner is rated as one of the cleanest in South Dakota.
