A Huron woman and a child died when their car plunged into a lake Saturday southwest of Wessington, in Hand County.

According to the highway patrol, 33-year-old Katherina Naw lost control of her car along a curve, then went into a ditch before going into the lake at Rose Hill Recreation Area.

The car went under water, and Naw and one-year-old Nang Zin Naing, were unable to get out.

The highway patrol says alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
