South Dakota native Laurie Fulton is the new U.S. ambassador to Denmark.
Fulton is a Sioux Falls native who later lived in Brookings. She once was married to former Senator Tom Daschle.
Fulton, who now lives in Virginia, was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate last Friday.
Fulton is a lawyer who has extensive experience in politics and public service. She also has connections to Denmark. She said in a statement to the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations that her grandfather came to the U.S. from Denmark in 1910, and that she has visited the country many times.
