With hundreds of cars drawing thousands of people the Sioux Falls Green Project and Downtown Sioux Falls made sure to have at least 100 recycling and trash bins to clean up. Crews spent most of the morning putting the dumpsters out and tonight a group of very special volunteers is helping to spread the word about going green.
It is all about trash talk at Automania. The trash talkers roamed the streets tonight in an effort to go green. “They are volunteers who work to keep the event clean and also talk with fans at the event about recycling and try to help them understand it's not just disappearing it's going into a landfill,” Joe Bartmann with Sioux Falls Green Project said.
The Sioux Falls Green Project was approached by organizers of events in Sioux Falls about doing their part to keep the streets clean and ensure what can be recycled, is.
That's why more than 20 volunteers are cleaning up and educating the public. With Sioux Falls' single stream recycling program that job is easier.
“Everything, plastic, paper, aluminum, and glass can all go in one, all in the brown containers,” Bartmann said.
The group set up 50 brown recycling bins and will pick them up at the end of the night, dropping them at the recycling center. “Everything you do, every person that tries to live a greener life helps to make our community greenier and helps to have a better place for us to live,” Bartmann said.
Going green one trash talker at a time.
If you would like to become a Trash Talker the group will be at Jazz Fest and Hot Summer Nights in July.
