A state report indicates that gasoline blended with ethanol is the most popular fuel with South Dakota motorists.
Thirty-seven percent of all tax revenues from fuel purchased in the state comes from ethanol-enhanced gas, followed by 31 percent straight gasoline, 31 percent diesel fuel and the rest from E-85 ethanol and liquid petroleum gas.
Motorists in South Dakota spent $116 million last year on fuel taxes. That was an $8 million dip from 2005.
The state tax on gasoline and diesel fuel is 22 cents a gallon, and the fuel tax on ethanol-enhanced gasoline is 20 cents a gallon.
