New Year's Eve is one of the Sioux Falls Police Department's busiest nights each year. Tonight they'll be out in force to keep drunk drivers off the streets.
The police department is announcing that they'll have more officers working tonight, in hopes of discouraging drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel.
"We encourage people to have a plan in place. We don't want anybody to get arrested for DWI but certainly if they are going to be drinking and driving, officers will be out there and enforcing it very hard tonight," Sgt. Galen Smidt said.
Some officers will be patrolling lesser-traveled streets, because they know some drunk drivers to get away with it by avoiding the major routes.
