An officer in the South Dakota Army National guard is dead in a scuba diving accident while vacationing in Hawaii.  Marlon Thompson of Plankinton died after diving with a friend off the shores of Maui. 

An autopsy will be done to determine exact cause of death. 

In addition to serving in the National Guard, Thompson was also a farmer and school board member. He was 45.
