Lake Oahe rose three and a-half feet last month and could rise another three feet this month.
Rain and snow in recent weeks have increase the elevation of the lake, and the Corps of Engineers has been able to release less water through Oahe Dam because of all the moisture flowing into downstream reservoirs.
Although Oahe is holding its own this spring, it's still 25 feet below normal and one foot lower than last year at this time.
A corps spokesman says it plans to hold as much water in Oahe as possible this spring -- primarily to preserve the fish spawn.
The federal agency will begin six public meetings next week on the annual operating plan for the Missouri River dam system.
